Peugeot Wins the Petit Le Mans

The two Peugeot 908 HDi FAP finished first and second today in the Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta, counting for the American Le Mans Series. The two Audi R15 TDi finished 3rd and 4th. The two Audis have dominated the race but but slowed down as rain started to fall, a change that Peugeot drivers did not miss.

A Diesel Powered Radical SR10 at Petit Le Mans

Autolog Green reports that ECO Racing will put a diesel powered Radical SR10 on the grid at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. While nobody expects them to win against Peugeot or Audi, ECO Racing should be able to put up a fair fight. Radical has extensive endurance racing experience, including in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fitted with a diesel engine and with the right racing strategy, the Radical SR10 has a good chance to walk away with a nice result.

Audi to Race at Petit Le Mans

According to yesterdays announcement on the Audi Joest Racing news page, Audi has decided to pick up the gauntlet thrown by Peugeot Sport by putting two R15 TDI LM-P1 prototypes on the grid at this year’s Petit Le Mans. Audi can hardly afford not to race. In the context of their efforts to sell TDI powered cars in the US they need to establish a strong presence, and a victory against Peugeot at Road Atlanta would be more than helpful.

It’s interesting to notice that Audi sees the Road Atlanta race partly as training for the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2010, a huge chance to collect real-world information about how their car races – and that they blame this year’s Le Mans failure on the little driving experience they had with this new car. That is, if you call a third place at the 24 Heures du Mans a failure….

Peugeot to Race the Petit Le Mans

Peugeot have confirmed yesterday they’ll place two 24 Heures du Mans winning, diesel powered Peugeot 908 HDi FAP on the starting grid of this year’s Petit Le Mans, in the American Le Mans Series. The Petit Le Mans endurance race takes place at Road Atlanta, a 2.54 miles long, 12 turn track and is one of the most important American Le Mans Series events.

Peugeot have won this year’s 24 Heures du Mans ahead of Audi, three years after returning to the mythical 24 hours long endurance car race, and they seem eager to confirm their victory, this time on American soil. But Audi has a lot of experience in the ALMS as they proved at the beginning of current season when they won Sebring ahead of Peugeot.

The french clean diesel prototypes will be driver by Pedro Lamy, Nicolas Minassian, Franck Montagny and Stephane Sarrazin.
