Peugeot wins Sebring

Peugeot Sport this weekend took the first two places at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the American Le Mans Series opening race, and Aston Martin took the third place. Drayson Racing’s Lola-Judd driven by Emanuele Piro was running second in the early stages of the race, but had to fall back because of mechanical problems.

This was an important victory for Peugeot in preparation for Le Mans. Aston Martin and Drayson provided strong opposition and forced the French team to push their limits. Even though these are very encouraging results, Peugeot’s main competition at Le Mans will come from Audi and their new R15 TDi Plus, and it’s only safe to imagine they’ll put up a serious fight to make up for last year’s failure.

12 Hours of Sebring

The 58^th 12 Hours of Sebring, the American Le Mans Series season opening race, will take place this weekend at the Sebring International Raceway.

The entry list is a quite interesting one. Peugeot will be there for the third time in the row and they are very likely to score a comfortable win since Audi is not there. Sebring 12 is also the race where Emanuele Pirro will make his debut with Drayson Racing. Their Lola Judd prototype is less powerful than the Peugeot 908 HDi but Pirro has a great deal of experience, so he could mean trouble for the competition.

Sebring will also see the ALMS debut for a bunch of GT2 cars, including the new GT2 Corvette, the Ford GT, Jaquar XKRS and the BMW E92 M3.

We’ll follow the race and keep you posted with results.

Get a Ride With Derek Bell at Sebring

So, how about flying over to Florida and sitting next to Derek Bell while he drives a few laps around the Sebring International Raceway? That would be fun, right? First, because you get a ride on the actual Sebring track and second, because Derek Bell is behind the wheel. So if you’re interested rush over at ebay and start bidding!

And if by any chance you’ve missed who Derek Bell is, here’s a hint: 5 times 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, he’s prints are all over Place Saint-Nicolas in downtown Le Mans. Good luck with the bidding!

Emanuele Pirro to Drive for Drayson at Sebring, Le Mans and Petit Le Mans

After a great career as an official – and extremely successful – Le Mans driver for Audi Emanuele Pirro is back in the game. The multiple 24 Heures du Mans winner has signed an agreement with Drayson Racing to drive their prototype at Sebring, Le Mans and Petit Le Mans. This should give Drayson an excellent advantage in the Le Mans game, as very little drivers know Le Mans, Sebring and Petit Le Mans so well as Emanuele, who won the 24 Hours so many times I can’t remember.

I wish him all the luck in the world and I’m looking forward to see him at this year’s scrutineering. Wherever that might happen, given that the Quinconces des Jacobins is a construction site these days

Hernandez partners with Aston Martin for Sebring and Le Mans

Aston Martin Racing announced they partnered with Adrian Fernandez of Fernandez Racing for the later to join the Aston Martin drivers lineup which includes Chris Buncombe, Stefan Mücke Harold Primat and Darren Turner. Fernandez, who won the American Le Mans Series LMP2 category in 2009 will race for Aston Martin in the Amercan Le Mans Series at Sebring and Long Beach, in the (European) Le Mans Series at Paul Ricard HTTT as well as at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2010. More joint races will be announced in the coming weeks.

So what’s in it for both parties? Well, Aston Martin is getting an exceptional driver in their 2010 Le Mans lineup while Fernandez gets a chance to compete at Le Mans in a competitive LMP1 car. Looking forward to the results.

Marc Goossens to race for Jaguar Rocket Sport Racing

Marc Goossens has signed up with Jaguar Rocket Sport Racing to drive the team’s Jaquar XKR GT #33 in the 2010 American Le Mans Series season. Marc Goossens has plenty of experience at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and other endurance series.

New 5.5L V8 Corvette GT2

The all new GT2 Corvette fitted with a new 5.5L V8 engine will make its American Le Mans Series debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Downsizing th Covette to GT2 makes economic sense since it will put it in direct competition with the Porche GT3 RSR and the Ferrari 430. If the Covette manages to win in this category the marque could attract a whole new set of customers.
