Audi Back in Business

Audi’s first and second place at the 12 Hours of Sebring last week must have felt really good and reassuring, as the Germans haven’t scored such a performance in the American classic endurance race since 2005. It was just like the old times, with Kristensen, McNish and Capello holding the cup. And you should probably get used to it, because with Peugeot out of their way, Audi will probably sweep everything away.

Sebring was also the first round of the brand new FIA World Endurance Championship.

Pescarolo finished in an honorable 6th place overall, 3rd in LMP1.

Oreca wins the 12 Hours of Sebring

Team Oreca Matmut drivers Nicolas Lapierre, Loic Duval and Olivier Panis won the 12 Hours of Sebring, the starter race of the 2011 American Le Mans Series and Intercontinental Le Mans Cup season. David Brabham and friends took the second place, followed by a factory Peugeot and the two Audi R15+. Both Peugeot and Audi lost one car in an accident. It was The R15s last official race. Peugeot wins the Petit Le Mans

Peugeot won the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta this past weekend, also putting a car in second place. Audi arrived third.

Franck Montagny, Stephane Sarrazin and Pedro Lamy scored a very important victory for Peugeot who now leads the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup with 36 points, 14 points ahead of Audi. To secure the title Peugeot only has to finish in the top 11 in the last ILMC race at Zhuhai, in China.

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid at Petit Le Mans

The Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid, star of this year’s 24 Hours of Nurburgring will race at this year’s Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. And hold on, it will be driven by Le Mans winners Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Mike Rockenfeller. This year’s Petit Le Mans is scheduled for September 29th, in less than a month.

Peugeot wins Sebring

Peugeot Sport this weekend took the first two places at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the American Le Mans Series opening race, and Aston Martin took the third place. Drayson Racing‘s Lola-Judd driven by Emanuele Piro was running second in the early stages of the race, but had to fall back because of mechanical problems.

This was an important victory for Peugeot in preparation for Le Mans. Aston Martin and Drayson provided strong opposition and forced the French team to push their limits. Even though these are very encouraging results, Peugeot’s main competition at Le Mans will come from Audi and their new R15 TDi Plus, and it’s only safe to imagine they’ll put up a serious fight to make up for last year’s failure.

12 Hours of Sebring

The 58^th 12 Hours of Sebring, the American Le Mans Series season opening race, will take place this weekend at the Sebring International Raceway.

The entry list is a quite interesting one. Peugeot will be there for the third time in the row and they are very likely to score a comfortable win since Audi is not there. Sebring 12 is also the race where Emanuele Pirro will make his debut with Drayson Racing. Their Lola Judd prototype is less powerful than the Peugeot 908 HDi but Pirro has a great deal of experience, so he could mean trouble for the competition.

Sebring will also see the ALMS debut for a bunch of GT2 cars, including the new GT2 Corvette, the Ford GT, Jaquar XKRS and the BMW E92 M3.

We’ll follow the race and keep you posted with results.
