AutoblogGreen is reporting that the Audi’s 2011 Le Mans prototype will be a V6 diesel fitted with a kinetic energy recovery system – also known as KERS. This makes sense from a commercial point of view as Audi is about to introduce hybrid powertrains in their production cars and also goes towards A. C. O. policies that try to reduce fuel consumption and improve efficiency.
While KERS systems are already used in Formula 1, it would be the first time the concept is used in conjunction with a diesel powertrain.
